Connection
Split-Flap X was created by Justin Dyck and turns your TRMNL into a configurable virtual split-flap display. Use the Static strategy with the Display Text field, or fork the recipe and switch the plugin Strategy to Webhook and send text to the generated Webhook URL.

Text wraps to the configured grid; excess content is clipped. The shortcuts ❤️, ⭐️, and 😊 render as simple white icons. Webhook payloads are limited to 2 kB. See the TRMNL webhook guide for general webhook details.
Available settings
Display Text (Static Strategy Only)
Used when the plugin Strategy is Static. Webhook payloads use the text merge variable instead. Lines wrap at Characters per Row and content beyond Rows is clipped.
Rows
Number of horizontal character rows. The boxes, gaps, lettering, seam, and hardware details scale automatically.
Characters per Row
Number of character boxes across each row. The complete board scales automatically to fit.
Background Colour
Select a native 16-level grayscale shade. 1 is white and 16 is black.
Minimum Margin
Minimum clear space around the flap boxes, measured in final display pixels. The smaller of the horizontal and vertical clear spaces uses this value; the other may be larger.
Override Mashup Border
Leave blank to disable this setting and keep TRMNL's native border. To override it with a darker border and optional padding, enter the desired padding measurements in top, right, bottom, left order (for example: 3px, 3px, 3px, 3px). Invalid values are treated as disabled. Each side must have a minimum value of 2px to render correctly.
