Haven't been able to play with it too much yet, but so far I do like it a lot. We have the family calendar visible on it and it's so easy to take a glimpse of it. I am waiting to get the Home Assistant integration, because that opens up another channel to get all relevant information on it. Our electricity pricing is fluctuating in Finland every hour (now changing to every 15m) and it would be nice to see the daily curve on the TRMNL. Another one is the bus schedule for the next few hours. All this I can pull to Home Assistant and therefore it would be an easy gateway to TRMNL also. Anyways, great product!

Highly recommended but be deliberate in your use

Make sure you know what problem this is solving for you before buying. Pay attention when you pull your phone out around the house. What information are you looking for? When are you looking for it? That is the information that you should put on this display and at that given time. No need to pull your phone out of your pocket and get sucked into social media, messaging, etc. This also gives you an opportunity to be more deliberate about your life. Rather than going to the same grocery store every time, have price comparisons between local grocery stores displayed next to your car keys.

It's amazing.

The whole experience has been great. Setup, updates, management have all been amazing. I love this for family schedules, dinners, etc - but then one in my office for work planning, goals, news, notifications. I use my phone less and don't feel like I'm missing things. I'll be getting more.

Took a bit to figure out Google calendar integration but now that it is working it has really helped keep the family informed of everything coming up in the next week. Setup was very simple, screen looks great!

Battery life is looking great. The screen is clean and crisp. Initial setup was simple, and the documentation has been really good. Adding recipes has been very easy, the admin page works like a charm. I love it!I’d like the option of a 1 min refresh, or else I need to make a recipe to combine multiple google calendars and apple calendars into a single widget. Hmm.

Incredible craftsmanship. While I've not had much time with it do to a mix of work and life things popping up I was getting started with it earlier and appreciated the simplicity for startup. Using the WiFi portal method for setup is genius. And the quality of the device is great. It's not entirely solid, there is a small very tiny feeling of fragility. But it's really well manufactured. I'm curious what the material texture on the outside is called or how that's achieved. It makes it feel soft. Nice to hold.

Exactly what I wanted

Fantastic and open little device. I love the product and ecosystem built around it as I don't have a lot of time to 'hack' it right now. I was able to get up and running with several basic screens that have been helpful in my daily life.I also love that it's open so, god forbid, the company goes away one day the display will still be useful and I can easily host my own server or repurpose it for another project. Every product should be this way and, in my opinion, it adds a huge layer of value!

TRMNL is a great companion device that keeps me informed of the things that matter most to me. Works as described

To help my kids get ready in the evening and morning I use the Weather plugin to help them get dressed and the 'custom text' plugin to write down what the plan is for the day. I used a command strip to place it in the hallway and it has been working great.

I had been on the hunt for an e-ink calendar - they were all prohibitively expensive, or exceedingly complex, or relied on some very fishy app connection. I mean I think I'm a pretty clever guy but I am not capable of the coding and programming needed for so many of the DIY options.Saw TRMNL. Bought TRMNL. It's perfect. Sits on my desk, tells me weather and my calendar, and updates only when it needs to.Despite what marketing tells us - we don't actually need every device to do every thing. TRMNL does what it says it will, does it well, and without extraneous nonsense. Perfect.

Made for the minimalist generalist

Once you have setup your TRMNL, it is pretty straightforward to add plugins from the dashboard and add them to your playlist where these will be displayed.As a minimalist it is easy for me to look at my items at glance and not be bothered by other distractions on my phone: if you do some time blocking on your calendar then I highly recommend adding your calendar through the plugin to see all upcoming events.Beyond that the widgets for weather and custom text are my favourite

Just got mine, and I already love it

I backed TRMNL on Kickstarter, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive my order today (10/17/24) which is a month and a half ahead of the expected delivery date of December 2024. Setup was easy, the device came fully charged, and I've even started tinkering around with creating custom plugins already. I don't know if people realize how insanely difficult it is to bring a hardware product to market, and Kickstarter is rife with crowdfunding efforts where the supporters were burned. This is not one of them, pretty obviously. The actual display is really high quality--if I didn't know better, I would assume it was a fully overseas-manufactured and assembled device!Kudos to Ryan and his team for bringing this thing together. I'm impressed. Try it, I think you'll like it.
